The Opportunity

Thomas Patrick Recruitment is partnering with a profitable, fast-growing technology company that provides real-time data and AI-powered intelligence to more than 300 leading venture capital and private equity firms.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to help build the production infrastructure powering the company’s next generation of agentic AI capabilities.

This is a hands-on individual-contributor position for an accomplished backend engineer who enjoys building real products, solving complex technical problems and shipping reliable features at speed. You will have significant influence over the platform’s technical direction while helping the engineering team establish best practices as it continues to grow.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and deploy production-grade backend services using Python and FastAPI

• Build scalable APIs that support AI-powered product features

• Develop the infrastructure and orchestration layer behind agentic AI capabilities

• Work extensively with PostgreSQL, ClickHouse and SQL

• Support intelligent data retrieval and AI-driven analysis across large datasets

• Integrate large language models, embeddings and vector databases into production systems

• Improve the performance, reliability, scalability and maintainability of the platform

• Work closely with founders, product leaders and fellow engineers to turn ideas into customer-facing features

• Mentor other engineers and contribute to technical standards and engineering best practices

• Use modern AI-assisted development tools to increase development speed and quality

Essential Experience

• Approximately 5–15 years of professional software engineering experience

• Advanced commercial experience developing backend systems in Python

• Strong experience building and deploying APIs in production environments

• Practical experience with FastAPI or a comparable Python framework

• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, SQL or similar database technologies

• Experience designing scalable, reliable and maintainable backend architecture

• A proven record of delivering production features used by real customers

• The ability to work independently and take ownership from initial concept through to deployment

• Strong problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills

Desirable Experience

• Experience working with LLMs such as OpenAI or Anthropic

• Knowledge of AI agents, orchestration frameworks or agentic AI systems

• Experience with embeddings, semantic search or vector databases

• Previous experience within a startup or fast-growing technology company

• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor or Claude

• Experience mentoring engineers or contributing to the development of engineering standards

• An interest in private markets, financial data or investment technology

Working Arrangements

Candidates based in London will work from the company’s London office five days per week. Remote applications can be considered from eligible candidates located elsewhere in the UK and selected European countries, excluding France and the Nordic region.

Package

• Base salary of €90,000–€140,000, depending on experience

• Annual performance bonus typically worth €30,000–€40,000+
